Raise the Roof Campaign

Did you know that St Matthew Trinity’s roof is over 160 years old?

Our beautiful sanctuary is protected by a very large, old slate roof. The wonderful thing about slate is that it never deteriorates or degrades. This roof has served us well for a very long time. In the recent past however, we have experienced some major problems. The nails, which hold the slate on, are rotting and falling slate tiles have started to do damage to the existing gutter system which has allowed water to cascade down the exterior wall, soak the interior plaster and result in the damage you can see below.

Needless to say something had to be done. After exploring many repair options, it was decided that the time had come to replace the south-facing roof in its entirety. It was a long process to find a commercial roofer willing to work in Hoboken and on our very high, steep sloped roof. We finally connected with Brady Roofing, a reputable commercial roofer in Bergen County and we signed a contract to replace the entire south-facing roof with new shingles and install an entirely new gutter system on the entire south-facing roof exposure. This job is currently underway. Once it is complete, we can begin the repair of the interior walls.

We are aiming to raise $50,000. Check out the thermometer in the SMT Center for updates on how we're doing.
